About EAPUOC
2009 Community Awareness Report
2009 was a great year for EAPUOC’s Community Awareness Committee.
- The year brought a change to the Chair with the retirement of Rich Lamont. Rich was a stellar member of EAPUOC and achieved many goals during his involvement. A special “thank you” is extended for his many years in damage prevention.
- They hosted 35 contractor meetings in the greater Edmonton area; hosted 15 underground awareness presentations; set up 14 rental business pen displays and visited 39 elementary schools. At these events and meetings approximately 10,000 GRONK coloring books, 2000 pens and 450 gloves were distributed. Comments received from teachers, site foramen and frontline employees were all positive.
- They supplied Alberta One-Call with 10,380 safe digging manuals for distribution at Alberta trade shows. The manuals are always well received and are a great reference for safe ground disturbance.
- They ran numerous radio advertisements on CFCW.
- They launched its new website on December 1st.
- They attended the City of Edmonton Oil and Gas Review Committee Meetings.
- GRONG (Epic's mascot) attended over 25 special events - including some Edmonton Oil King games, a Strathcona County rural living event, Fort Edmonton Park Easter Egg Hunt and many more community events.
- EAPUOC was represented at all Alberta Damage Prevention Meetings.
- EAPUOC presented at an Alberta Damage Prevention Meeting and did a hydro vac presentation at the Alberta Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association Conference.
- EAPUOC hosted its annual safety seminar and trade show on April 8th at Festival Place in Sherwood Park. The seminar was a great success with 550 attendees and 30 trade fair booths participants. The event was well received with numerous accolades from the participants.
